Not too long ago I was looking through some of my post and realized I’ve never actually shared how Lance and I met, our love story. I’ve alluded to some details in a couple of posts, but I’ve never told the whole story.
So I thought I’d be clever and share our love story on Valentine’s Day. I know, I know. Sometimes my cleverness is too much for me as well 🙂
It was March 2009, and I was nowhere near where I wanted to be in life. My plan had included Michigan State and their theatre program, instead I was at the local community college, at my old library job, trying to figure out how in the world I was going to afford college.
To many it looked like an-out-of-nowhere decision but those who really knew me, namely my mom and my best friend, knew better.
I walked into the Army recruiting office, fully intending to join the Army Reserves. I looked through some flyers in the hallway and thought about going back to my car, that is until some random lady carrying McDonald’s walked past me and said “You know you can come in, right?” So I did.
“Hi! What can I help you with?”
That’s the first thing my now husband said to me, in his best recruiter/cars salesman voice.
Fast forward four months. I had just gotten back from Ft. Jackson, SC where I went to basic training. Turns out, the Army Reserves didn’t work out so well me, something about two fracturing my knees during basic training (loads of fun, I tell yuo). It was July 3rd, my birthday, and I was supposed to meet some friends at the balloon fest in town. Instead, I was by the Army Recruiters tent, catching up with my old recruiter.
Catching up, turned into us watching the fireworks together, turned into us hanging out until late that night.
The details are fuzzy from there, but we ended up hanging out pretty much everyday for a month straight after that. Somewhere in there, we had ‘the talk’ and it was made official on Facebook. Some of the other recruiters liked to joke and say I fractured my knees just to come back to the ‘Gu’.
Things in general moved pretty fast from there and on May 22, 2010 we got married. It’s definitely not your average love story. We met in a very unusual way, and we had a fast dating/engagement, but I wouldn’t have done it any other way.
I’m the luckiest girl in the world and have the absolute best husband. Love you, babe!
