I’ve imagined myself writing this post dozens of times over the last 2 years. This summer marked 3 years of living in El Paso on Army’s orders. I don’t think it’s any secret that I have not enjoyed our time here. I tried, I gave it a year and then was “NOPE. I’m done. Next.”
After what seemed like an eternity and one big “we might be in El Paso for another 3-4 years” scare, we have orders!
We are moving to Germany!!!
I will always treasure our time here in El Paso solely because it brought us Joey and baby #2 but the middle-of-nowhere desert living is not for me and I am ready (jk, my to-do list is a mile long already lol)
We will be in the Bavaria region, about 2 hours north of Munich in a tiny itty-bitty town but I already looked up the weather report and 2/3 of my closet that hasn’t been used in the last 3 years is screaming for us to board that plane. Seriously, sweater, cardigans – I can wear them again! aaaahhh!
While this is really, really exciting, it’s also really, really nerve-wracking. I basically have two modes right now
Freak Out Mode
Oh god, we’re moving to Germany. And Lance has to be in school immediately before which means I’ll be doing the whole PCS by myself… with a toddler and a newborn. What have we done? How many plug-in transformers thingies will we need? I should invest in stock. What the hell is going to happen to my business… oh god my business! Shit. What about immigration? My green card? So much paper work! I should really start learning some German. Oh geez, where are Pudge and Panda’s shot records? How many shots do they need? Do the need doggy passports? God, I hope they have doggy passports… their signature can be their paw print!
and then there is…
Really Excited Mode
TRAVEL TO ALL THE PLACES. I can go to London! and France! and Italy! Oh my god, the Italian food! I need to make a list. Of all the places. All the places! German cake! I cannot wait to consume my weight in German baked goods. Cold weather! Real fall… I can wear cardigans again! And scarfs! And my pretty boots! Three years in Germany! This is going to be so much fun.
So for those of you that have done OCONUS moves before, especially if you’ve gone to Germany – send me all the tips! Maybe I can calm my freak out mode a little bit. Let the countdown begin to May 2017!
